Dr. Amy Bandy Ear Surgery Before and After

Dr. Amy Bandy is a leading ear plastic surgeon, serving the Corona del Mar and Dana Point, California locations.  In regards to ear surgery, Dr. Amy T. Bandy states that for “the multitude of procedures that can be performed to beautify the ear, the first thing that comes to mind for most people when they think of ear surgery, it is for children and adults who have protruding ears that jet out further from their head than what is typically considered cosmetically appealing.”  Dr. Amy Bandy goes on to say that “ear surgery can be performed on children as young as five years old and can be performed in adults as old as they desire.”  “The ear cartilage is still developing in small children and that is why it is advisable to wait until the child is about approximately five years old before performing surgery for otoplasty or to bring the ears closer to the head,” says Dr. Amy Bandy.

In terms of methodology, Dr. Amy Bandy explains that “there are a couple of different ways of correcting protruding ears … typically an incision is made on the posterior aspect or behind the ear and after the incision is made in the skin and the subcutaneous tissue, the cartilage is then located and a series of stitches are placed into the cartilage to permanently to curve the cartilage into a more anatomic shape to bring the ears closer to the head.”  Dr. Amy Bandy describes more on the procedures:  ”Other procedures that can be performed for the ears as people age, the ears are one area on the body where the tissues continue to grow so in people as they reach maturity, often times the size of their ear as well as their ear lobe may be larger than they desire them to be.”  Dr. Amy Bandy states that “so ear lobe reduction is a common procedure that is performed now where the ear lobe itself is reduced in size and this can be done either through an incision at the lowest part of the ear lobe or through an incision along the cartilage margin of the upper part of the ear lobe or a wedge incision of the ear lobe where it is rotated more closely to the head.”  Dr. Amy Bandy continues “the ear can then be re-pierced in females if they desire because often times they will lose the ear piercing when it’s made smaller.”

Moreover, Dr. Amy T Bandy declares that “torn earlobes or another common thing that plastic surgeons see in women who have had pierced ears who wear heavy earrings or even who have worn lighter weight earrings that for a very long period of time, and the torn ear lobe can be protected by removing the scar tissue where the ear has been torn and reconfirming the ear to a more aesthetically appealing shape.”

Lastly, Dr. Amy Bandy explains the recovery time and pain involved in an ear surgery procedure.  Like other procedures, Dr. Amy Bandy asserts that “typically the most painful time during recovery is your first night after the local anesthetic wears off but within 24 to 48 hours there is minimal to no pain, the swelling has subsided and you can return to normal activity except for contact sports.”  Dr. Amy Bandy states that “for the first six weeks after the procedure the patient is instructed to wear a light elastic head band over their ear when they are sleeping at night to maintain the proximity and allow the sutures to completely heal.”

With a great deal of success over the past decades, Dr. Amy Bandy plans to open up new offices in Cypress and Santa Monica, California.
